Knox Appalachian School

The Knox Appalachian School was founded in 2004 as a joint venture with the Appalachian Children's Home and the Knox County Board of Education.

The Knox Appalachian School is a public school serving the needs of the children committed to the Children's Home. We now have 5 certified public school teachers and a Title One Coordinator. Special education services are offered on-site by a certified special education teacher. The school is one of the most technologically advanced schools in the area and is a pilot program for the Plato Learning System.

Because of the cooperation of the Children's Home and the Knox County Board of Education, our students have opportunities that many public schools struggle to provide. We offer educational travel on a 60-passenger tour bus to sites such as the Gatlinburg Aquarium , historical visits by Kentucky history re-enactment specialists, and career days to learn about possible employment opportunities as our residents transition back to community life. Our small student-to-teacher ratios enhance our individual learning goals. For more information, please visit the Multimedia section to view highlights of our recent trip to the Aquarium.
